Embrace of the Serpent DVD

Inspired by a couple of real “explorers,” the film opens at the time of the Amazon rubber boom at the turn of the last century. A German explorer travels through the Colombian rainforest, followed by an American botanist a generation later searching for a magical plant. The cast is largely Indian amateur actors, speaking their own languages, and, while the film is a work of fiction, it does convey some of the history of a region in which Survival supported one of its first field projects in the 1970s.
